Captions Glad Valborg! Walpurgis Night – Sweden's very own spring kick-off – takes place on the 30th of April. 🌸 Walpurgis was a German saint 😇 and the tradition was brought to Sweden by Germans in medieval times.
On Walpurgis night, bonfires will be lit across the country, and songs of spring will be sung. It's usually much colder than expected, so the heat from the fire is most welcome. 🎵 🎉
A common sight on Walpurgis Night in Sweden are students wearing their student cap, normally white with a black peak. For upper secondary school students in their final year, Walpurgis is also an occasion to celebrate that they are about to graduate. 🎓
⚠️ A word of caution, though: only light fires in safe, dedicated places!
