We all know that trees do a lot of good, right? But did you know that trees contain cellulose nanocrystals, which are great at absorbing pollutants? 🌳
Based on this knowledge, Chalmers University of Technology has developed a new, cellulose-based material that can purify contaminated water.
By using this method, up to 80% of pollutants in water can be absorbed. This has the potential to make a big impact in areas where access to clean water is limited. How does it work?💧 The treatment system – which is simple and portable – is connected to a sewage pipe.💧 The cellulose-based material in the system works as a filter. 💧 The contaminated water passes through the filter.💧 The filter absorbs the pollutants, which are broken down by sunlight, without the need for additional energy or heat. The textile industry is now testing this technology, as a means to combat the problem of toxic textile dye discharge.

This has the potential to make a big impact in areas where access to clean water is limited. <br><br>How does it work?<br>💧The treatment system – which is simple and portable – is connected to a sewage pipe.<br>💧The cellulose-based material in the system works as a filter. <br>💧The contaminated water passes through the filter.<br>💧The filter absorbs the pollutants, which are broken down by sunlight, without the need for additional energy or heat.<br><br>The textile industry is now testing this technology, as a means to combat the problem of toxic textile dye discharge."
