Captions Welcome to the preschool Hoppet, 'the hope'! This building not only hosts about 140 children in 8 departments across 1,800 square metres – it has also raised the bar on sustainability. 🏡 💚
Built in 2022 in the city of Gothenburg on the Swedish west coast, this project challenged industry standards. 🔨 The architects based all their design decisions on innovative and climate-smart materials, which reduced the climate impact of the project by a staggering 70% compared with old standards.
One key to reducing the carbon footprint was to choose a Koljern building foundation, which uses 60–70% recycled cellular glass instead of concrete and cellular plastic. ♻️
Almost all building components are made of solid timber. Walls, ceilings and joists consist of cross-laminated timber and studs. The façades are clad in wood, and the floors are made from cork and end-grain wood blocks.
