Born on 24 May, 1925, in Västerås, she was a true pioneer in the world of cinema. 🎥
Zetterling began her career as a celebrated actress, but it was as a director she truly made history. In the 1960s, she entered the male-dominated world of filmmaking with bold, feminist stories that were far ahead of their time.
Her films are poetic, political, and deeply personal – giving voice to women’s inner lives and challenging the norms of both film and society. 💪
One of her most iconic works,'The Girls' (1968), explores the everyday struggles of women balancing independence, relationships, and societal expectations – long before such themes were common in cinema.
✨ The film has been digitally restored by the Swedish Film Institute, as part of their mission to preserve and share Sweden’s cinematic heritage.
