And the visitors to this café just might be slightly older than the average café-goer. 🧓
Every Wednesday, Sjöbo invites people with dementia and their relatives to create new music together with professional musicians. No charge, and there's even free coffee! ☕
The initiative, based on an English methodology called 'Music in Mind', is part of a Swedish research project exploring how improvised music creation like this can improve the quality of life for the participants.
Previous studies show that when people with dementia get to express themselves through music, they experience improved social interaction, less anxiety and a boost in confidence. 👌
The weekly café is arranged by the town of Sjöbo, the local bank Sparbanken Skåne and a philharmonic orchestra called Lundalands filharmoniska orkester.
