How to use the material This post is about parental leave in Sweden and how it's been 50 years since Sweden became the first country in the world to replace gender-specific maternity leave with parental leave for both mothers and fathers.

Captions Fifty years ago, Sweden paved the way for more equal parental leave. 💛
👶 Then, the so-called parental insurance enabled parents to take six months off work per child – with each parent entitled to half of the days. But in 1974, only 0.5% of the paid parental leave was taken by fathers.
👶 Now, parents in Sweden are entitled to 480 days of parental leave per child. Ninety days are ear-marked for each parent, while the remaining 300 days can be shared between them in any way they wish. And today, fathers in Sweden take around 30% of the paid parental leave.
