As a singer, guitarist and songwriter, Dimitri moves effortlessly between genres. Heavy metal, blues, Roma folk music – even Finnish tango. Back in 2011, Dimitri was named Sweden’s best voice in the TV show ‘True Talent’.
Dimitri was born to Finnish Roma parents in Märsta, north of Stockholm. To him, there is no contradiction in calling yourself a proud Swede, a proud Finn and a proud Roma at once.
Sweden.se met with Dimitri to talk about his favourite things from the Roma culture.
Today is International Roma Day. Roma people are one of Sweden's five official national minorities, along with the Sami, Swedish Finns, Tornedalians and Jews. Their cultures, traditions and languages have special protection in Swedish law.
