This day aims to highlight the importance of press freedom and the right to freedom of expression. The freedom to express oneself in speech and writing is one of the basic human rights.
In Sweden, this freedom stems from the world’s first constitutionally protected freedom of the press legislation, the Swedish Freedom of the Press Act of 1766.
