Geared at the 60-plus crowd, this sport is about improving fitness, coordination, balance, mobility and mental health – at a fun and friendly pace!
There are around 300 walking football teams in Sweden.
The rules:
⚽ Players are only allowed to walk, which means that one foot must touch the ground at all times.
⚽ If a player runs, the opponents get a free kick and the running player gets a warning.
⚽ A player can get a maximum of two warnings. The third time a player breaks a rule, the person gets a blue card and is sent off for three minutes.
⚽ Players are not allowed to head the ball or shoot higher than waist height.
⚽ There should be minimal physical contact between players.
⚽ Players must be 60 years old or turn 60 during the year, to take part in the series game (started in 2024).
There are three different formats for walking football: 6 against 6 with a goalkeeper; 6 against 6 without a goalkeeper; and 4 against 4 without a goalkeeper. The game can be played outdoors or indoors.
